To sign-up for the RP Network, join our mailing list (look left). If you’d like to view our latest email bulletin, click here. In addition to sharing products and news, we will also regularly feature an RP Success story. If you would like to share your story, or have comments or questions, please email us at info@reactorpanel.com. 10.14.2005 Recent activities have kept us extremely busy. Not the least of which are the beautiful product lines we’ve added and our two new Fitting Agents. In addition, Carmi enjoyed a successful fitting trip to the East coast, touring Connecticut and parts of New York and New Jersey. Then back at home it was off to Dressage in the Wine Country, a local afternoon of horses, wine, and demonstration rides from the exciting to the sublime. We also put up the RP Pop-Up at a local endurance ride and really enjoyed all the opportunities to get out, talk to folks, and display the saddles. If you know of an event in your region that would be a good place for an RP Saddle display, let us know. Read on to meet our new Fitting Agents, discover our new products, and more!
As always, we love to hear your feedback, comments or questions. We’re working hard to build the best saddle company the horse world has ever seen and your needs, wants and comments are critical to our success. Give us a call or send us an email! info@reactorpanel.com. Meet Our New Fitting Agents! We are pleased to welcome two new fitting agents to the RP family, Mollie Krumlaw-Smith and Marlene Moss. Mollie Krumlaw-Smith will be assisting us in her home state of Ohio and the surrounding Midwest states including Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky. The ink is barely dry on her contract but already she’s begun scheduling her fitting tour, lecture series, and trade shows. A horsewoman all her life, Mollie is an avid endurance rider and a long-time RP customer. Her knowledge of saddle fit, equine physiology, and the ReactorPanel system will be a wonderful asset to our team. Click here to read more about Mollie or to contact her for a fitting. Marlene Moss will represent us in her home state of Colorado and in surrounding areas when possible. Marlene brings years of experience with fitting flexible panel saddles and is as devoted to the underlying principles and elements of art and science in good saddle fit as we are. An RP enthusiast, avid rider, and saddle fitting expert, she is hitting the ground running and is ready to assist Rocky Mountain residents with their saddle fitting needs. Click here to read more about Marlene or to contact her for a fitting. To find a Fitting Agent in your area, click here. Another RP Success Story This month’s success story illustrates how even our own fitters go through saddle woes. Truman Prevatt, an RP Fitting Agent, has tried several RPs and even some “other” saddles on his new youngster before testing our VSD Baker Trail Saddle which is built on a flatter tree. Here’s how it worked: I have just gone through a fitting from hell. The good news is it was my own new horse so the customer didn't beat me up too badly. His back is short - very short. His back is flat. It goes flat at the wither. It's flat across the back and it is flat along the back front to rear. You could pull up bar stools and eat dinner off his back. We finally found a saddle that fits, but it was tough. Because his back is so flat, the Baker tree fit him better than the normal tree. It seems to be working very nicely. When I set it up and rode it the first time he was walking faster than he's ever walked under saddle before. His head was down, back rounded and he was striding out. I could work the bit and use half halts to get him to stretch his neck out and down and he responded beautifully - that's new. He hasn't done that in any other saddle. He is happy and less spooky in this saddle. He seems a lot more comfortable in the VSD Baker Trail than anything else I've had on him. -- Truman Prevatt New Products! Memal Leather: We have added a new leather choice for the saddle flaps and skirts. In addition to our highest-quality 4mm hides, we are now offering Memal leather. Memal is an oil-tanned cow hide that is mistakenly referred to as Buffalo leather by most – and even sometimes, as Elephant leather! It is thick, soft, and extremely ‘grippy’. It contours to your leg during the very first ride, virtually eliminating break-in time, yet it’s durable enough to stand up to years of use. It’s now available as an option on all black saddles, so if you’re ordering soon, ask us about the Memal leather.
Epona Grooming Products: Want to give your horse a daily reward? We recently added some of our favorite Epona grooming products to our collection. So far, the hands-down favorite is the ‘Nuzzler’; a currycomb-like equine massager that helps rub away your horse’s day to day muscle tension. Already a favorite, we’ve sold out of Nuzzlers twice; before even announcing them as part of our line! You’ll find Nuzzlers in cute pink heart shapes, blue or yellow ovals, or purple rectangles. During October we will be adding more of the Epona products and you’ll soon see them here on our site. Meanwhile, call or email for more information and be sure to let us know if you have favorite Epona products so that we can be sure to stock them.
The Preston Hill Equine Halter: This is a truly luxurious halter and one of our favorite finds. Scrupulously crafted from the finest imported leathers and solid, polished brass hardware this halter is an elegant combination of beauty and functionality. The top leathers are made from the finest quality, resilient South American hides. The under leathers, that pad your horse’s head stall, cheek pieces, and nose band, are fashioned from soft Italian pelts to ensure stylish, lasting comfort. Triple-stitched with locked ends and a polished brass signature emblem, this lovely halter is available in traditional bridle brown or a rich jet-black and will provide lasting comfort and elegance for you and your horse.
KK and Sprenger: We are very pleased to be an authorized retailer for the exceptionally high quality line of KK Ultra Bits and Sprenger stirrups. In fact, we can get a wide range of items. Need a special order? Just let us know and we’ll be happy to order it for you. We welcome custom orders and special requests. For prices and ordering information on any of the products we carry, email us. Saddle Theft! Please remember to keep a look out for the 9 saddles stolen from our Walsall, England manufacturer on July 29. Here’s what to look for:
Thanks so much. Press and Upcoming Events Attention Equine Studies Classes and Riding Clubs! We’re now offering the Educational Saddle Fitting Seminar to accredited university programs and private clubs. If you think it would make a good addition to your curriculum, let us know, info@reactorpanel.com. Saddle Tour Stops Our next saddle fitting tour in the Midwest is tentatively scheduled for December 8-12. HQ staff will join Mollie Krumlaw-Smith in Ohio and the surrounding areas for fittings. We will be in Southern California for the USDF Annual Meeting. Don’t miss our display at the Symposium Site over the weekend of December 3-4. During this visit, we will also be on hand for new fittings and saddle adjustments in the greater Los Angeles area. If you’re interested in a fitting for your horse or in attending other fitting sessions during either of these tours, call or email info@reactorpanel.com. We’ll keep you posted on dates and specifics. Don’t forget to check back next month for more news from ReactorPanel. And remember to send us your questions, comments and feedback. It’s your insights that help us fulfill our commitment to the highest standards of service and ethics. If you have a testimonial letter or photo of your horse wearing an RP Saddle, send it along with permission to publish and we will add you to our web site. 8.10.2005 We’re happy to announce July was another busy and exciting month here at ReactorPanel Saddle Company. With lots of business streaming in, a successful Camp RP training weekend, and a host of new products we’re definitely moving in the right direction. But it hasn’t all been coming up roses. We experienced a significant theft of saddles from our England manufacturing plant. Though we are making up production and moving on quickly, we appreciate your eyes and ears looking out for any information. The saddles were stolen without panels, so if you see an RP seat that has been traditionally flocked or have someone ask about panels, let us know. For more information on the saddle theft or all the great events of July, please read on. As always, we want to remind you that we love to hear your feedback, comments or questions. We’re working hard to build the best saddle company the horse world has ever seen and your needs, wants and comments are critical to our success. Give us a call or send us an email! info@reactorpanel.com Another RP Success Story One of the best parts of an RP is that you can customize the fit for your horse and his various athletic and conformational challenges. Even better, according to our customer survey, our customers said that they found the ‘Ease of Fitting’ RPs to range from good (31%) to excellent (34%). But fitting challenges are bound to come up. Here’s a success story from a customer who, after years of riding hard in his RP, ran into a fitting challenge. With our support for a readjustment he overcame the challenge for a happy, competitive horse. Hats off to a perceptive owner who identified discomfort in his horse and used his resources to make him comfortable. Here’s his story: Just got back from Gallagher Grit 3-day. Laser and I did days 1 and 2 for a total of 105 miles and about 18 hours ride time. As you may recall, mountainous rides have been the bane of Laser's back all along. This was about as mountainous as it gets. We got straight A's on back over both days -nothing short of a miracle for me, I don't remember the last time this happened, much less over a long ride or a multi-day. Thank you, thank you, thank you. The fitting was cheap at twice the price! David LeBlanc Want to share your success story? Email us! We’d love to hear about your experiences. Email reagan@reactorpanel.com and be sure to let us know if we have your permission to publish your note on our site. New Products! Endurance Girths: Due to the many challenges endured by endurance tack, we’ve now modified the surface of our endurance girth to be even more durable without sacrificing your horse’s comfort. But remember, it’s still leather so take heed when evaluating your girth purchase for the many trials faced on an endurance ride. KK and Sprenger: We are authorized distributors, and so can order anything at all from these incredibly high-quality lines of German imports. From Aurigan KK Ultra bits to Sprenger’s original 4-way stirrups, we can supply it! Need a special size or material? Just let us know and we’ll get it for you. We welcome custom and special orders. For prices and ordering information on any of the products we carry, email us at info@reactorpanel.com. Camp RP Camp RP was a wonderful success this year. For those of you that don’t know, Camp RP is a periodic training session for ReactorPanel fitters and company representatives. A great forum to learn advanced fitting skills, nuances of the saddle components, and details about our various product lines, Camp RP is a valuable experience for those wishing to hone their skills and increase their RP fitting business. For an overview of the weekend’s festivities, click here. Want to join the next Camp RP? Better yet, are you or someone you know interested in becoming an official fitter for RP? We’re a great company to work for and offer lots of support and great pay structures. Contact us if you’re interested, info@reactorpanel.com. Saddle Theft! Alert! ReactorPanel Saddle Theft: 9 Saddles Stolen in the UK It is with regret - and a bit of disgust - that I'm writing and asking for help from the international equine community. Our saddler's workshops in Walsall, England were broken into on Friday night, July 29. The thieves took away saddles that were nearly finished and ready for shipment. As they did not steal panels, the saddles are unusable in their present state. Instead of "bottoms", they have Velcro plates. It is most likely that these saddles will be modified, through the addition of wool or foam flocking. Even if you are not in England, please help us by watching classified ads and bulletin board lists. Given today's international markets, these saddles could turn up for offer in any country on any continent.
Thanks so much. Press and Upcoming Events We’re now offering the Educational Saddle Fitting Seminar to equine studies and veterinary programs. If you think it would make a good addition to the curriculum at a program you know of, let us know: info@reactorpanel.com. Visit our booth at the Dressage in the Wine Country Festival August 27. The festival is lots of fun with riding demonstrations, a great trade fair, and wonderful wine and food! For ticket information, visit Dressage in the Wine Country. Don’t forget to check back next month for more news from ReactorPanel. And remember to send us your questions, comments and feedback. It’s your insights that help us fulfill our commitment to the highest standards of service and ethics. info@reactorpanel.com 7.10.2005 As always we’re really making strides at ReactorPanel, forward and balanced strides of course. There are lots of new products, services and press to tell you about this month and even more coming up in the months to come. You may have noticed that we’ve been silent in this space recently. We’ve simply been flat-out busy working with people and their horses, and are thrilled to have added Reagan Hayes to our team, with responsibility for marketing and communications. You’ll find her updating our What’s New section on a regular basis – and lots more besides. See About Us / Staff for Reagan’s background and biography. As always, we want to remind you that we love to hear your feedback, comments or questions. We’re working hard to build the best saddle company the horse world has ever seen and your needs, wants and comments are critical to our success. Give us a call or send us an email at info@reactorpanel.com. ANOTHER RP SUCCESS STORY Did you know that according to our customer surveys, 92% of ReactorPanel Saddle owners say that their horses have improved since they’ve been riding in their RPs? It’s true. Virtually every day we hear another great success story of a horse and rider combination who’ve benefited from our innovative design. Here’s a story one of our saddle fitters emailed to us. FYI, the subject line read “Smiling”: Just a note...Two months ago I fitted a second-hand VSD Summit for an Icelandic horse owner. For five years she’d had problems with this mare bolting. Well, she doesn't bolt any longer and the intense look in her eyes is gone. An equine chiropractor offered to trade adjustments for riding lessons. The mare was pretty mal-aligned. When she came for her second adjustment... there was nothing to adjust....another happy story. Want to share your success story? Email us! We’d love to hear about your experiences. Email reagan@reactorpanel.com, and be sure to let us know if we have your permission to publish your note on our site. NEW PRODUCTS! JMS Stirrup Fenders are now available. These are perfect for riders who prefer to have the seat of the saddle free from padding, but like to have their leathers covered to reduce rubbing and sweat on the ankles! EuroPro Boots. These boots provide a snug, supportive fit lined with soft fleece for added comfort. Durable and versatile for day to day protection and elegant enough for the show ring. Riders give them rave reviews! KK and Sprenger. We are authorized distributors, and so can order anything at all from these incredibly high-quality lines of German imports. From Aurigan KK Ultra bits to Sprenger’s original 4-way stirrups, we can supply it! Need a special size or material? Just let us know and we’ll get it for you. Toklat Products. We are thrilled to announce that we are now carrying the entire Toklat line. From bit to back and head to toe, Toklat offers great products and we’re pleased to represent their lines. For prices and ordering information on any of the products we carry, email us. NEW EDUCATIONAL SADDLE FITTING SEMINAR Our much acclaimed Educational Saddle Fitting Seminar is now available to the public. Available nationwide, the seminar teaches the basic techniques that professional saddle fitters use to achieve maximum comfort for horse and rider. Derived from courses Carmi Weininger and Lisa Jordan have taught at vet schools and universities such as UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, Southern Illinois University, University of Guelph, the information presented is appropriate for equine enthusiasts of all levels, as well as for professionals from trainers to veterinarians. The seminar is not promotional in any sense. It simply presents unbiased educational information that people need to ensure their horse’s comfort. As Carmi says, “This seminar fills a critical hole in many people’s knowledge base. We teach how to use tools, not opinion, to prove that saddles do or don’t fit. Poor saddle fit can trigger behavioral and performance problems that are often blamed on something else. By ensuring proper saddle fit, riders can improve the welfare of their horses and eliminate roadblocks in their training.” If your club, organization, or event is interested in the seminar, let us know by emailing us at info@reactorpanel.com or by calling us at 1-888-771-4402. PRESS Look for a press release on the Educational Saddle Fitting Lecture. We just announced it to the world so over the next few months keep an eye out for more information in your favorite magazines! Don’t forget to check back next month for more news from ReactorPanel. And remember to send us your questions, comments and feedback. It’s your insights that help us fulfill our commitment to the highest standards of service and ethics. Contact us at info@reactorpanel.com.
8.1.2004 WE'VE MOVED We've not posted our happenings and events recently, as we've spent some time finding a new space... and then moving! We're thrilled with our new space, which gives us almost double the warehouse space. If you are mailing or shipping to us, be sure to note our new address: The ReactorPanel Saddle Company Our phone numbers all still work, but our new direct office line is 510-654-7793 and our Fax number is 510-601-6350. REACTORPANEL IN THE NEWS The press continues to pay attention to RP happenings. The August issue of Horse Illustrated has a piece on Alternative Saddles written by the editor herself. Very different in tone from the Equus piece, this coverage continues to legitimize the validity of engineered and unique saddles. And, in the August issue of Equus, the segment on Perle's Progress notes the changes in the Arab mare Perle due to training techniques - and changes in bit and saddle. Which saddle? An RP, of course! On a more regional level, the June issue of Galloping Gazette profiled the RP company and history. Check these magazines out! SADDLE FITTING CONCEPTS: THE LECTURE Our lecture on the basic principles of saddle fit was developed after years of study, and packages information gained from working with veterinarians, saddle makers and saddle fitters in the US, Canada, and England. This lecture is not about our saddles, but is our contribution to the welfare of horses through the education of riders. The primary lecturers for the company are Carmi Weininger and Lisa Jordan, who have been invited to speak to groups as diverse as the University of Southern Illinois, UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, Guelph University's online course in Equine Functional Anatomy, and local groups of all kinds from dressage GMO's to trail advocacy groups. If you'd like to explore the possibility of having us lecture at your barn or club event, let us know. NEW PRODUCTS! SKITO DRY BACK PAD. The brand new Dry Back pad from Skito is now available for ReactorPanel Saddles. This pad does not fit over our panels like other RP pads, but has been specially modified to fit under and around our panels and saddle flaps so that no other pad is necessary. This pad does an excellent job of combating friction between saddle and horse, and is expected to be a great favorite with endurance riders, or owners of horses with sensitive skin. Click here to go to their website for information on the pad and material. The standard RP version of the Dry Top is made in black with a 4" extension for the cantle bag to rest on. The inserts are felt and foam. The horse side is 65% wool 35% poly blend. The pad can be special ordered with different insert combinations, 100% wool on horse side and different colors and patterns. Call us for information on ordering and pricing. JMS SHEEPSKIN FULL SADDLE COVERS. JMS Sheepskin covers are now available for ReactorPanel saddles. Our special design, in conjunction with JMS, yields the biggest cover they've ever made in 100% luxurious sheepskin, with seams carefully placed to avoid delicate anatomy and a secure rigging system. These covers fit the Endurance, VSD, and Cross Functional models. Colors include black, dark brown, tan, and natural. After expensive testing and patterning, these covers are in stock now at the introductory cost of $185 until August 31. From September 1st the cover will retail at $210. MATTES SHEEPSKIN WASH We are now carrying Mattes Washing Liquid. Specially designed for washing 100% sheepskin pads, the soap is available in sample size for $1.50, 250 ml for $5.75, or 500 ml for $9.00. Orders are shipped the day they are placed; call us if you'd like to order or test this fine soap.
4.1.2004 REACTORPANEL SADDLES FEATURED IN EQUUS, APRIL 2004 This month's issue of Equus has a Special Report on alternative saddles, covering ReactorPanel and some of the other innovative saddles on the market today. We're thrilled at this sign from the trade press that they realize saddles like ReactorPanel are not a fad they are an important emerging segment of the saddle industry. Of particular interest: a chart comparing features of twelve different saddles. Check it out! REACTORPANEL EDUCATIONAL SADDLE FITTING SEMINAR In keeping with our commitment to rider education and horse welfare, we have created a 90-minute saddle assessment lecture that covers the basics of fit for a horse, fit for the rider, the role of the saddle, and commonly used measuring tools to assess fit. As we travel around fitting saddles, we find that up to 80% of the saddles we test don't fit horses. It seems to us that increasing rider knowledge is the best route to ensuring that horses are more comfortable under their saddles—no matter what the brand. If we have a fitter near you (or if we'll be traveling to your area for a clinic) inquire about scheduling this talk for your group. It is educational, NOT promotional. On an introductory basis, this talk is free to non profit organizations, clubs, and barn groups of 15 or more. INTRODUCING MATTES CORDURA PADS FOR ENDURANCE We so thoroughly approve of the Mattes pad in cotton quilting that we've asked Mattes to make heavy duty Cordura pads for us as well. Just like our cotton quilted pads, the endurance version has a Velcro tab on the front pocket as well as one on the rear, making it extremely easy to put on and remove the pads. The Endurance pads are lined with Mattes' 15mm long fiber BRONZE 100% wool which is carefully woven onto a material backing for ease of care and durability. The full range of colors we'll offer is still in the works so if you're interested, get in touch with us and let us know your color preference. Now accepting orders for delivery beginning in May. REACTORPANEL STIRRUP LEATHERS We now have stirrup leathers to match our saddles. Crafted in England to our exacting quality standards, there are two types: plain, and reinforced. The reinforced leathers have a very thin piece of webbing as a centerpiece to guard against stretching, but are no thicker than normal leathers. Both types in stock: Black and Roeberry, in 54" and 60" lengths. Other sizes and colors may be available on a special-order basis. FULL SHEEPSKIN SEAT COVERS FROM JMS Having the proper fit and construction in a seat cover can make the difference between comfort and agony on those long rides. We have worked with JMS Sheepskin to create special patterns for ReactorPanel saddles, and are pleased to announce that these high quality and beautifully sewn covers can now be ordered from us. While we plan to stock the covers once they are in full production, for now, please allow 6-8 weeks for custom patterning. SNUGPAX CANTLE BAGS FOR RP SADDLES Recognizing our saddle's popularity with distance riders, Snugpax has modified their cantle bag design specifically to fit our saddles. You can view Snugpax' general product line at www.theaustralianconnection.us, or email info@snugpax.com for more information.
2.19.2004 Most of us are aware that the dollar has been steadily weakening on the international currency market. The plunges it has taken in the past six weeks have dramatically increased the prices that we pay to our manufacturers in England, who are paid in British pounds. We have been fearing the "two dollar pound" for weeks, and it is now a virtual reality. Therefore, it is with regret that we must announce an exchange rate surcharge which will go into effect on March 18, 2004. The surcharge of $275 will apply to all saddle orders received on or after March 18. We have decided very deliberately not to increase our prices, and have every hope that the surcharge will have a short life. It will be eliminated once the dollar-to-pound exchange rate returns to a level below 1.70, which is the figure we used to create our 2004 operating budgets.
1.28.2004 FEBRUARY HORSE ILLUSTRATED COVERS REACTORPANEL SADDLES In November, we visited Equine Affaire in Massachusetts. We remember showing our saddles to the publisher and managing editor of Horse Illustrated. However, we were quite surprised to get a call a week or so later from their editor, who said, "Our February issue is going to cover trends in tack, and I've been told your saddle is the trendiest thing there is!". Check out the resulting article in the February 2004 issue called "Hat to Hoof, A Trend for the Better." (hint: you'll find us on page 88.) 2003 GROWTH RATE: A SUCCESS STORY Although we are a privately held company and don't need to publish our results, we are so proud of our 2003 growth rate nearly 60% over 2002 -- that we thought we'd let the secret slip out. Thanks to all of you who contributed to our growth! 2003 RP ANNUAL MEETING: VETS AND SCIENTIST HELP US EXPLORE SADDLE FIT As part of our continuing mission to combine art and science in fitting saddles, ReactorPanel Saddle Company kicked off its annual meeting in Tryon, NC with a full-day open session with veterinarian and saddle-fit expert Joyce Harman, DVM, MRCVS, of Washington,Va. Held at the farm of Joy Baker, DVM, attendees included Kerry Ridgeway, DVM of Aiken, SC and Gayle Ecker, researcher at Guelph University in Ontario, Canadain addition to RPSC staff, fitters and members of the local horse community. Dr. Harman used her Saddle Tech computer pressure system to verify fit of a number of different saddles, including ReactorPanel, conventional saddles, and treeless saddles. During the session, the computer results were compared to the low tech saddle-fitting tool, the Impression Pad from the Port Lewis Workshop which is used by all RP fitters. While results were not conclusive in the limited time available for these experiments, we did determine that both the computer and the Impression Pad were able to verify trouble spots with the same saddles. "It's about time that we brought science into the world of saddle fitting to be sure that we really are doing what is best for the horse," commented Bettyann Cernese, ReactorPanel's district manager from Massachusetts. "Some would say that saddle fitting is an art, but it has only been that because of the lack of application of 'tools' to determine what is a good fit. Up until now, saddle fit has been mostly subjective based on the fitter's sense of what is a good fit." Port Lewis Impression Pads are available from RPSC for $199 plus freight. Click here for more information. Call or email to order a pad. NEW PRODUCTS: MATTES SHEEPSKIN LINED PADS AND GIRTH COVERS
Make your horse's belly as comfortable as his back. Mattes girth covers are made of the finest Platinum Sheepskin, and are so luxurious, they invoke images of curling up in front of the fire. Preliminary tests by endurance riders show they are easy to use, don't bunch or sag, wash up beautifully, and provide the thickest possible cushion for horses with girth sensitivities. When combined with our Centrelastic Girths, pressure is distributed over the widest possible area. Each cover attaches to the ReactorPanel Centrelastic Girth with easy-to-remove Velcro strips. All Girth Covers are in Natural Sheepskin (pale cream color). NORTHEAST FITTING CENTER PLANNED We are in the process of developing a Fitting Centerbased in Massachusetts, to provide inventory and fitting services for New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
